Traveling Green

As Spheric employees we are required to travel quite a bit due to the nature of our work. But we can still be green while doing it.

Air travel produces approximately 12% of the world’s transport CO2 emissions, although Boeing is working on plane engines that could be burning bio-fuel (Treehugger.com), it won’t be ready for 3-5 years. To reduce our footprint we try to work remotely but it’s not always possible. When we need to fly, we chose to offset our CO2 emissions with the airline ( like AirCanada’s Carbon Offset Program or Continental’s Eco-Skies Program). For those flights that we couldn’t offset through the airline, we purchase Offset credits every quarter.

The Secret of Spheric is Out

Having had the pleasure of working with Dan Martell longer than anyone, I feel as though I need to draw special attention to his latest accolade.

This evening (Oct 21), at a ceremony in Vancouver, BC Dan will be named Business Development Bank of Canada’s Young Entrepreneur for New Brunswick 2008. Dan is truly deserving of this honour as it is his visionary leadership and the ability to see farther and with more clarity then any of our competitors coupled with the knowledge, tenacity and drive of the entire Spheric team that has allowed Spheric to grow to be the company it is today.

Carbon Neutrality - What Does It Mean?

Spheric has been carbon neutral for almost a whole year now, but what does it mean to be carbon neutral. According to Wikipedia, “Being carbon neutral, or carbon neutrality, refers to achieving net zero carbon emissions by balancing a measured amount of carbon released with an equivalent amount sequestered or offset.” [1]
